The Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN) was established in February 2008 as a central point of contact where people could report cases of animal abuse or find more information on animal welfare in Indonesia. JAAN operates both a Wildlife division and a Companion Animals division. The Companion Animals division helps the stray animal population through spay/neuter, emergency rescue and treatment, and adoption. The organisation primarily focuses on raising awareness of animal suffering and promoting compassionate treatment for all of Indonesia’s animals. Through its membership of the Dog Meat Free Indonesia coalition (of which FOUR PAWS is also a member), JAAN also campaigns to end the dog meat trade in Indonesia.

FOUR PAWS originally partnered with JAAN to create an online educational platform with a variety of toolkits, handouts, and lessons on animal welfare to help spread awareness and provide training materials for teachers, students, and the public alike. The programme also supports educational seminars and presentations to schools, embassies, organisations, and at various events throughout the capital city of Jakarta. The partnership with FOUR PAWS has since been expanded to include activities aimed at ending the dog meat trade in Indonesia. These include a workshop with government stakeholders in Semarang, Central Java, a survey of continued dog meat trade activity in Sulawesi, and various education and outreach projects and activities.
